so i just built my parents a new decent computer.

specs:

asus a8v deluxe mobo *needed for the crappy, old 32mb geforce 2mx 32Mb
3000+ amd 64 venice
512mb corsair xms pc3200 ddr400
geforce 2 mx 32Mb
80gb 7200 rpm 8Mb cache WD special edition
windows xp+sp2

ok, so everything has been running TERRIFIC. however, the boot times are at least a minute! why the hell is this? it's a brand new computer, and it starts up slower than their old gateway.

i think it has something to do with the BIOS, but i'm not sure.i flashed it to the latest version, disabled the promise controller, and disabled some other SATA or RAID crap, i didn't see anything about "floppy seek" or anything like that, but it still boots slow. i don't think it has anything to do with windows because it happens before it even loads at all.

i've googled it, but i only found a few people with similar problems, to no avail. thanks for all your help!

even though i didn't get any replies, i figured out the problem. i tried hooking up my old hard drive in tandem with the new one, setting up the new one as master and the old one as slave. i didn't change the setting back to CS when i took out the old hard drive, and evidently this is a problem for WD hard drives. just thought i'd post this info if anyone else has this problem.
