I got my build working first time except that one of the RAM sticks was not showing up - swapped them around to check if one was faulty and hey presto my problem began. No signal at all to the keyboard, mouse, or monitor.
I have:
1) Changed the RAM and bought new RAM of a different brand
2) Took the entire build apart - reset the bio - and put it all back together again
3) tried booting from a floppy and tried booting from an updated bio from a floppy

nothing I have tried has worked
I am now stuck with a computer that starts up - recognises the floppy, and DvD drives, everything lights up fine, all the fans are working etc but I can get no signal for the monitor, keyboard or mouse. The mouse and keyboard are Logitech and light up so I know if they are getting any contact with the mobo. The keyboard, mouse and monitor all work fine when connected to my laptop. The graphics card lights up and fans work etc.

Any advice before I either buy a new mobo or take it to a pro to work on

Looks like you are trying to say that you have 2x 512 sticks, so put one in bank one, and the other in bank three. "Swapping" doesn't sound right to me. Only use recommended ram.
 
I have 2 x 1 GB sticks

I tried two different brands that were recommended in the guide book for the motherboard - Kingston and Crucial

I put them in the slots indicated according to the manual - when I say swap them around I meant swap stick A with stick B but in the correct slots. This is because stick A was working but stick B was not working - (ie the computer was only recognising one stick and not both of them) after swapping around the computer would not recognise the mouse, keyboard or monitor and has remained that way - even after swapping stick A and stick B back to their original positions.

1) Take out / dis-connect everything including the CPU.
2) Take out the motherboard battery and let the computer sit for 5 mins without the battery installed.
3) Re-install the battery, cpu, and cpu heatsink.
4) Connect the power supply to the motherboard (24 pin connector only)
5) Install one stick of memory in slot 1 and the video card in PCI-E 1

With just these components installed (nothing else connected) see if she will boot up. If it does, re-connect your remaining components one by one until you find the culprit. If it does not, try a different video card or each memory slot one by one. If possible, try another stick of DDR that you know works. If it still doesnt boot, you might be up for an RMA.
 
i know it sounds stupid

but check to make sure you +12V 4 pin is connected securely to the motherboard


mine came loose and i was stuck in your same boat, until i tightened it up

This may sound stupid too, but was the system unplugged (or power supply turned off) when moving around RAM sticks?
