I have searched around for a concrete answer before posting this - apologies if it was out there and i missed it.

So I have the aforementioned motherboard in front of me and a zalman fs c77. It appears they arent compatible because the backplate on the mobo is glued in place (bugger). I thought cool I will just use the metal plate - however it already has metal studs poking up through the holes so I cant screw in the zalman supplied 'nipples'. For one they dont fit the threads and even if they did they are meant to screw into the backplate not these studs so they would be too high and the hsf wouldnt touch the cpu... Long story short the zalman site in fact doesnt list this cooler as being compatible with this motherboard anyway, which I should of checked.

Looking around I see some people seem to be using the zalman 9500 led. Can someone confirm this would definitely fit the A8N32-SLI Deluxe, and have no problems with this glued on metal plate? If not perhaps you could let me know what coolers you know do fit it, the quieter the better...

This has run kind of long so thanks very much in advance for any help or comments on the whole 'nipple' line.
 
Yes, the Zalman CNPS9500 works great on this board... all you have to do is loosen the screws from the bracket/plate, put the heatsink on your cpu and screw them back down again.
 
Get a blowdryer and point it at the rear backplate. The glue should become pliable enough for it to come off without incident. Then you install Zalman's backplate. As much as I don't care for Fata1ity-branded products, the FS-C77 should work.
 
Hi, thanks i might try the hairdryer trick if i can work up the courage. Im not really impressed with the whole fatal1ty brand either, just the size and apparent quiet of this cooler.

Ockie - just to clarify and I appreciate I sound like a total noob here but when you say loosen the screws are you talking about removing the plastic seat on the top side of the motherboard completely and then screwing the heat sink directly into the metal stubs poking through from the backplate?
 
It is identical to the Zalman CNPS7700-Cu, just with a louder fan, so the "quiet-ness" isn't really there. :p

Ockie is referring to the Zalman CNPS9500, which has a different installation altogether...

I installed the Zalman 9500 on an Asus A8N32 Sli Deluxe/Antec/P180 case and
2 x 1GB Corsair XMS-3500LL PRO RAM sticks.
The heatsink clears the memory too (these sticks are wider/taller than the norm).

You don’t have to mess with the back plate at all.

You just apply the paste to the CPU, remove the 2 bracket screws on the Asus board,
fit the L-Type clip into the HSF, position the HSF on the CPU and put the screws back
in through the clip..
