Ok guys, need help.

Trying to install XP, and the only drive I have is a 250gig Sata2 WD that is plugged into the SATA 1 controller. and for some reason my pesky mobo will not detect it. I have my SATA 1 & 2 enabled, nVRAID enabled, and the SATA 1 & 2 enabled, and nothing on the IDE setup except for my Sony DVD-R

Update: detects it as the "Third IDE master".

Please help, starting to twitch..

Thanks Guys

Update: ATAPI issue fixed, however, it cannot see my HD at this time. Again, SATA is enabled.... ugh

Yea.. I was up till 5am.. For some reason it has the traditional Primary master/slave, and secondary master/slave, but then the 4 SATA connections are labels as IDE Masters #3, 4, 5, 6. Really threw me off, but it works great as of this moment

As already questioned, why do you have the NV RAID enabled? Turn it off and all should be good. :p

still doesnt work for me, i called asus and they said i need a new bios chip...

My motherboard will not detect any of my internal cd-roms in bios. I had to go buy a USB drive just to get the windows xp disk to boot. Now the external ATAPI is working fine but not the internal so I unplugged that. How did you fix your ATAPI issue?

I have tried with 2 WD IDE's. 1 new and one old. Both are recognized in bios (individually) and then when I push enter to go into the windows setup it says that there is no HD and then I have to reboot.

I see you solved your problem but I am not running SATA hard drive so I don't know how to fix this. I have been trying for the past 8 hours.

I have the A8N32-SLI, Opteron 165, G.Skill memory, 6800GT BFG

This is a clean system. I have never gotten into windows yet.

if you have raid setup windows will not detect the array unless you load the driver for the nvidea raid controller, make sure you build the array too in the nvidea raid controller config right after the bios posts

I don't know how to do that. I have tried with raid on or off. I thought raid only effected people with SATA drives.

in the bios there is an option to turn raid on and off, turn it off, but have the SATA1 or SATA2 or whatever you have the sata drive in turned on, im about 90% sure you still need the driver for anything going into those sata slots, so go to the nvidea site and download the raid driver for whatever OS you have and put those files onto a disk, and at the start of XP setup hit F6 to load the 3rd party drivers and that should do it, i had to do it this way in order for XP to detect my harddrives
