spec:
Asus A8N-SLI motherboard
1 gig matched-pair kingston hyperx 2-2-2-5 ram (KHX3200ULK2/1G)
Antec Tru550 power supply
AMD Athlon 64 FX-53
Nvidia 6800 ultra vidcard (from eVGA)
2x 120gig maxtor sata-150 drives in a raid-0 striped array
System boots fine normally with everything set to default, but Sandra fails on the memtest every time with a hard reboot.
I've been able to get the system stable by setting manual voltages as follows:
memV 2.6 (default is 2.7, which crashes every time even when set this way manually)
CpuV 1.5 (tried everything from 1.4 to 1.5875 with zero effect)
Mux 10x (the default for the fx-53 is 12x, and it refuses)
fsb 203mhz (Stable up to about 206, anything higher fails)
If I try stock settings, mux at 12x, it crashes every time. The default mem voltage crashes every time, I hvae to actually reduce it to 2.6 to get the system to stabilize!
Here's the real kicker, I built two identical systems, and the 2nd system is performing better than this, but still can't run stock without reducing values!
Can anyone make any sense of numbers like this? I have to run this system sub-par in order to run it stable and that just ain't right!
Is the problem more likely to be with the motherboard or with the CPU? (I strongly suspect the CPU is fine and it's the motherboards) Reading these forums indicates there seems to be alot of issues with the A8N-SLI and especially sensitive to voltages and ramtypes. Can anyone offer any good ideas on what's my best course of action here?
(Replacing the motherboards IS a valid option.)
