Okay, here's the basic problem. Just built this rig recently (I'm of moderate skill, not noob and not advanced by any means):

A8N SLI-Premium
AMD64 3200+ CPU
Enermax 550W PSU
Sapphire Radeon X800
Creatvie Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
2 Sticks of Approved Corsair RAM (each 512k)
No RAID drives, just IDE

Now when I first put this rig together it worked like a champ.

At some point recently, the sound started cutting in and out on Winamp whenever I opened another program. It didn't do this before. It worked that way for a while, and then it just started giving me loops in the middle of games. I used to be able to run winamp in the background and load up WoW without a problem. Now I can run anywhere from 5-10 minutes in the game and it gets locked in a sound loop, sometimes screeching.

I've tried disabling ACPI, tried mapping a sole IRQ to my Audigy. Tried installing the Nvidia 6.65 drivers and not the 6.66. I don't have the marvell drivers installed.

I've tried turning on and off auto IRQ settings in BIOS. I've upgraded to the most recent version of that. Nothing seems to be helping.

ANYone have any tips beyond just formatting the hdd or NOT using the audigy (where I think the problem lies)?

Thanks in advance guys.

Just a thought would be to take out the Audigy and enable the on board sound and see if it does the same things. If it does then you know it is not the sound card. If it doesn't then it is the sound card. Depending on which audigy i dont think the onboard sound is that much worse than the Audigy would be.

I will do. The sound on this card is actually quite a bit better and I get the usage of the front panel which is why I was avoiding messing with it (plus why spend money on a soundcard you can't configure for use)

Results will be posted later tonight or tomorrow.

Okay.. last night I pulled the soundcard and ran off of onboard sound. I even did a complete clean install of XP without the soundcard. Froze up again so apparently that wasn't the issue.

Anyone?

well i was gonna say mine did that until i got rid of my audigy.
but apparently thats not your problem.

take one stick of ram out and try then
though ram problems ussually manifest in a different way.
.
I also had problems with the official bios that supported dual core. I roled back to the beta bios and everything worked fine.
I had the same mobo for a bit, I never did get it to work as well as my chaintech.

I would also try underclocking everything the ram the proc the HTT everything and see if that helps at all.

How about trying it without any sound at all.
Kill both the onboard and the audigy and see what happens. If it still plays up then I would put it down to it being not a sound issue.

how'z your v's looken on psu in bios?

are all your fans spinning?

have you tried underclocking your processor and/or video card ?

dumb down ram timings and see if that helps ...

stuff to do to try and pinpoint cause of your woes

All settings are stock on the bios right now. Should probably note that.

I'll try the memory thing and post the v's from the bios when I get home tonight. Thanks guys.

Haven't disabled sound or swapped memory yet but downgrading clock speeds didn't seem to help.

Here's my core v's as shown by BIOS (and all my fans are running just fine):

HTV: 1.20
CPUV: Auto
VCore: 1.39
Chipset V: 1.5

3.3v: 3.29
5v: 4.99
12v: 11.90

Is it possible that you upgraded NVIDIA motherboard drivers just prior to this problem manifesting itself? I try to use the bare minimum drivers (no IDE or firewall) whenever possible because they have been known to cause freezing, chugging, and other odd behavior?

Nope.. when I rebuilt it just the other day I even disabled the IDE and firewall drivers. (I installed the 6.65 version)

So I pulled one of the RAM sticks and it looks like it's okay. I can never tell since it seems to just happen randomly but I played longer than I have in like 2 weeks.

It's choppy since I only have 512k of RAM in it now, but I guess I'll have to invest in a new stick.

Man this board is picky about RAM.

I run 2 1 gig mushkin enhanced pc3200 mem modules .. cheap stuff and it runs well on this board

for me anyways
