a7n8x computer to computer w/o crossover?

I read somewhere that this board doesnt need a crossover cable to connect directly to another computer, as in you can use a regular cable, on the 3com port, and connect to another computer. anyone know how to do this or if it has any merit?

I'd say theres some merit to that logic. I know with a standard pci gigabit nic a crossover isn't needed for pc to pc. An onboard 3com solution ought to be able to do the same imho.

Of course i might be full of it since i don't own that mobo

What happens if you have two gigabit cards and no crossover. Do they get stuck in an endless loop of "no! I'll switch my pins, dammit!"
