A64 X2 in sn25p?

Check for a bios update before you purchase the CPU, but since it is a 939 board I do not see any reason why it wouldn't work. Also make sure to apply the bios update just in case before you go and pop the X2 chip in because it may not even boot if the update is not applied first. I really do not see why the dual core chip wouldn't work in the SN25P since the dual core chips will work in the older shuttle 939 SN95G5.

got an X2 in my SN25P, Works great. Dont see it getting used much though. Kinda wishing I had got an FX-57

It will always work - but until you do a BIOS flash, it will only see it as a single core processor.

IIRC., the 'k' BIOS was the first to support the X2s - both cores, anyway - but the 'o' BIOS is the latest and greatest.

A word of caution - the SN25P doesn't like old stuff. When you install Windows, it's best to use a CD with SP2 slipstreamed onto it. The SN25P doesn't like SP1 *AT ALL*. Also, make sure you have the latest nForce4 drivers from nVidia's site and use the Envy24 drivers from VIA's site.

Essentially, as with any system install, just throw away the driver CD they gave you and download stuff exclusively from the net and burn them on CD.

Anyway, I just booted, installed Windows SP2 (bought the OEM CD from Newegg with the system) and the nForce4 drivers, then did Winflash to the newest BIOS, rebooted, and taddah! Had 2 CPUs showing!

Guessing you've not tried alt-tabbing out of a game when running, huh?

X2 is sweet for multi-tasking!

You don't need X2 for multitasking... Here is an old def, old, but still fairly accurate.

Multitasking

The ability to execute more than one task at the same time, a task being a program. The terms multitasking and multiprocessing are often used interchangeably, although multiprocessing implies that more than one CPU is involved.

In multitasking, only one CPU is involved, but it switches from one program to another so quickly that it gives the appearance of executing all of the programs at the same time.

There are two basic types of multitasking: preemptive and cooperative. In preemptive multitasking, the operating system parcels out CPU time slices to each program. In cooperative multitasking, each program can control the CPU for as long as it needs it. If a program is not using the CPU, however, it can allow another program to use it temporarily. OS/2, Windows 95, Windows NT, the Amiga operating system and UNIX use preemptive multitasking, whereas Microsoft Windows 3.x and the MultiFinder (for Macintosh computers) use cooperative multitasking.

Not sure I follow the point.

Of course PCs can multi-task. That's common knowledge.

What I was saying is that X2s make multi-tasking BETTER.

no need to ALT-Tab out, I just control my server, run vent and such on my other computer.
