a64 system reccomendations

Iv waited for months, purchased some parts, and now I would appriciate someone to let me know if i did something wrong and save me before a expencive mistake.

A64 3200+ newcastle with the 512Kb L2 $217(newegg)

ASUS "K8V SE Delux" K8T800 $117 (newegg)

edited post to take out unessisary info in hopes of some feedback.

Also the mWave chip is mislabled and is actually a 512 of L2, so i replaced it with a chip from newegg.

Im mostly concerned with my choice of MoBo. Is there a better one for the money?

The socket 754 motherboards will all perform relatively the same so it would be best ot just check out the performance areas for each one and pick the one that you like the most.

I wouldn't go with that RAM though. Your getting raped on that price and its totally not worth it for that RAM.

Yeah, that RAM is really expensive go with the Corsair Value Select with CAS 2.5.

If he's going to go with the cheaper higher latency stuff then i would pick the Mushkin PC3200 lvl 1.

I would pick one of the two i linked though. They both will run 2-2-2-5 and overclock really well.

Comparing the 2, the OCZ is definitally lower latency with a definitaly lower price! *rubs eyes* Can anyone bring up an argument why i should go with the corsair over the OCZ? Otherwise im almost good to go.

i did notice OCZ wasent on the list of supported memory on the ASUS site, and the OCZ runs at a higher voltage and i cannot find the voltage supported on the board. How can i be sure the memory matched the board?

Since i am always on a tight budget i look for cheap/good preformance. so i went with the Patriot 1 gig kit which is here.

I alway ran this stuff before i sold. it ran supreme.


And i run the A64 3000+ and ocd it to 3200+ easily, with stock HSF
Donno about the mobo i just bought the cheap $75 chaintech NF3 250. Well good luck. The patriot ram i am running is very nice. although i have yet to get it to run its advertised latency.

Ok, Im going to consider this topic closed if i can get one last question answered.

Will the OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev. 2 be compatable with the motherboard i chose.

What worries me is i read at toms some double sided memory is incompatable with some a64 boards, sence its a ASUS board im a little at ease.

And will the board support the voltage needs of the memory at 2.75V?
