i heard that the socket 754 WILL be phased out very very soon,
is that true???

im building my new rig, any suggestions to choose either barton or a64 (the best for oc)

yea, but it's probaby going to be relegated to a budget socket.
I don't know of any plans for faster 64 bit chips than the 3700+.
 
does it really matter?

buy the time you need a better cpu you'll want a better chipset and some pci-e and possibly ddr2.
 
Doesn't really matter even if it is being phased out.. I recently upgraded to a 3200+ and by the next time I'm ready to upgrade (probably a year atleast), I'd be buying a 939 board anyway.
