A64 OC - high bandwidth or low latency?

Which would yield better performance for an A64 system? Higher bandwidth but looser timing (say 230Mhz@2.5-3-3-6), or tight timing but lower bandwidth (say 200Mhz@2-2-2-5). Assuming that the multiplier and memory divider are adjusted so that the processor runs at the same frequency for either configurations.

Low latency Yields higher bandwidth with Athlon 64's

So you are saying it's better to run the memory at 200Mhz@2-2-2-5 rather than 230Mhz@2-3-3-6?

lets hypothetically say someone got 250 mhz 2-2-2-5... any difference for a64 vs 200 mhz? (wondering if its capped)

I think it's a very real posibility. (the bandwidth cap)

I get 1554Mb/s on the settings in my sig. I will try lowering and edit this post later.

EDIT: the only cap is the computer restarting when your DDR/Chipset's FSB is maxed. Otherwise the bandwidth is not limited.

I get about 3-4fps boost in Doom3/HL2 with my mem @ 240mhz 2.5-3-3-8 1T than 2-2-2-5 1T @ 200mhz.. ( both @ 2.4ghz )

as long as the frequency is 20mhz or higher then frequency is going to give you much better results and remember cl2.5-3-3-7 isnt a crappy timing.

So which is it? Here we have some that say low latency is better, some say high bandwidth is...

If you can get a big enough increase in freq ( 200 to 240+ ) then looser timings are better since you have the extra power. If the difference is small ( 200 to 220ish ) then tighter timings are better.

get everest.
bandwidth doesn't matter, the latency benchmark does. find the optimal balance between timings and clock speed to give the best latency ;)
