The term FSB does not exist with A64s any more but uses the HT but....

According to sources on anandtech forum that is also not true. There is no such thing as 1:1 timings since the RAM timings are deduced from the CPU sped and are divided by a factor (also CPU dependant I think).

Could some1 please explain this to me. And please check your Egos at the door - obviously this is NOT an easy question.

You're a little off there. All speeds, CPU and RAM are derived from the "FSB" speeds. That's what multipliers on the CPUs are for and what bus speed ratings on RAM is for.

There is a 1:1 timing possible with the bus and the RAM all the way to the CPU interface but that's where it ends there. If you were to have a true 1:1 all the way through you'd have a 2Ghz CPU, a 2Ghz FSB, and 2Ghz RAM. Would be nice wouldn't it? :D

since a64s use an onboard memory controller then the fsb runs at the speed of the processor. the hypertransport is the speed between the memory control and the system ram.
