HI, I just put my A64 rig together

A64 3000 s939 wini
Msi neo2 platinum
Radeon 9800 Pro
2x256 single sided 2.5-3-3-6 Dell Ram
10gb ide HD
420 watt 13amp 12v rail pwr supply

I went from an old Athlon 1700 which I loved. It outperformed everything I tried (P4 2.0, P4 2.8, Athlon 1800) It was just amazing. With a Radeon 9100, it ran HL2 on medium to high. Anyway, I booted up installed the drivers, updated the bios to 1.8, did windows update, etc. It seemed a little bit zippier than my Athlon 1700 and about the same in HD related tasks. I played CSS and it recommended medium settings whereas it recommended high for my old Athlon. I was upset, but I maxed out the settings anyway. It played great with 100+ fps.

Now, I tried overclocking since this setup should be pretty good. I want a modest 20-25% overclcok that is stable. I could barely achieve anything though. I tried 240 HTT and 4x HT. Memory divider at 166 with 2.5x3x3x7 in 1t. Voltages 2.7 memory, 1.5 cpu, 1.6 agp. Agp lock at 67. Dynamic overclocking turned off and aggresive timings with performance mode enabled. It wouldn't boot. I backed the HTT down to 220 to get it to work. I ended up leaving it stock because it gave the best performance. With that, I got a 45second 1m Super PI. Any tips for me? I am new to A64 overclocking.
 
I read that already. I just want some pointers. Should I be in 1t or 2t. Should I disable the aggresive timings and performance mode. What are good voltages for cpu, memory, and agp?
 
Honestly, your 12V rail seems a bit weak. The A64 will use that 12V rail more than your old 1700 would. Maybe consider a PSU upgrade?
 
Seems to me you are underclocking your RAM a little. Does the voltage need to be that high for that? Is that the stock voltage. The divider seems fine but I calculate you at 196Mhz on your ram. Just a thought.
 
I have an Antec 400 23amp 12v in my athlon 1700 but the holes don't line up. At 1.5v, it is getting 1.42 in bios. I tried 240 HTT with ram timings 2.5-3-3-10 It booted and failed SuperPi. I went back in bios and saw that I accidentally left the ram at 1:1. I put on the 166 divider and it wouldn't boot. Back to stock again. BTW, I am clueless on the ram voltage. 2.7 seemed good, I have it on auto now.
 
I just checked the temps in the bios. Stock 44-45. With 220 HTT, 1.5v, and 166 divider-47-48C. My system temp is about 45. Eclipse, you have any tips?
 
You're 12v rail is really weak.

What are your temps when you run prime95? Temps might me an issue.

Also, set your ram divider to 100, and then start pushing your HTT. Run prime and see where your CPU craps out. Once you know the limit of the chip you can set you ram divider to keep it around 200 or so.

Also what bios are you running? Make sure you go and set bios defaults. I had problems with my Neo2 with the ram dividers after I flashed them and didn't load the bios defaults. Push your CPU with your ram at really low settings, then you will find the stable point of your processor.

Winnie's have really been a mix bag with overclocking. Some are great, some are really bad.

Lower your HT mutiplier too.
 
Ok done. The 12amp was very hot when I took it out. With the Antec in, my voltages are more consistent and about .5 more. The temps are 40C stock right now. I tried a 270 HTT with a 133 divider, but I left the cpu at 9X. The bios was screwed up and I had to reset the cmos. So with my 23amp Antec 400 watt in, what should I try in the overclocking department. Please be as complete as possible, A64 overclocking is way different than on my 1700.
 
This is very annoying. It won't boot at 245x9 with a 166 divider. My best is 275x8 with a 133 divider. Timings are 2.5-3-3-10 1t. Voltage is 1.5 cpu and the rest stock. Temp is 49C in bios and 1.42v. I achieved a 42 superpi. What settings should I try. My current doesn't seem too great since the ram is only at 184 and HTT at 825.
 
dell ram will probably crap out at 202mhz ;)

2.2ghz is a bit lower than average, but not surprising from a winchester. remember that it's still a 400mhz oc from stock.. not bad in absolute terms :D
one thing though, try bumping up the voltage, try 1.45v, see how much higher you can do, then if temps are still low, 1.5v.. i wouldn't go over 1.55v for 24/7 seeing your temps at 1.42v :cool:
 
My mobo allows up to 1.55 volts. I am at 1.5 now but it is showing 1.42. I am fine with 2.2, but I would like to be able to run my ram at 200 and my HT at 980. However, I can''t boot with a 245 HTT/9xcpu/4x HT/ and 166 divider. Any ideas why? I am 275HTT/8x cpu/3x HT/133 divider now.
 
Ok, with 5% overvolt I was able to get 1.45v. Temps are low-mid 40's. I could not boot at 245 with a 166 divider , looser timings, and a 4 HT. I left the divider at 200 though and it worked. Not PI stable though. 220 with 2.5-4-4-10 and 2.7v is very stable. I would like to be at 2.2 with 200 memory and 900 HT minimum. T
 
Come on, any help. It seems the memory is good until 225 with 2.5-4-4-10 the cpu hasn't maxxed out yet 2.25 is its best. And, the mobo is good to 275. Why can't I boot in 245x9 with a 166 divider.
 
Are you leaving the HTT multiplier on 4x the whole time? I know @ 4x245= 980, which is under 1000, but it's awful close. What you're describing sounds like when I try for 2.8 GHz on my proc, but I forget to lower the HTT multiplier- it won't boot until I lower it. Try lowering it to 3x, and see if it'll boot then. If it still doesn't, then you'll at least know that it wasn't holding you back.

As Eclipse says (in case you doubt me):
LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio: another term for the HT link multiplier. the final HT link speed = FSB (HTT) * this number. It has virtually no effect on performance, so do not worry about lowering it to get a higher overclock. As a general rule of thumb, you don't want the final HT link speed going over 1000mhz.
 
I just ran some tests. This is with Stock Voltage and settings in everything. I didn't check stability; just to see if it would boot.

CPU:

2.34 booted fine 300x8 forced me to reset the cmos. Voltage was 1.4; temps were low.

MOBO:

300HTT booted fine. Didn't try any higher. System temps went up to 45C.

Memory:

220 with 2.5-3-3-10 1T booted fine. 230 caused blue screen. IE crashed at 220 with these timings.
 
I just tried:

245 HTT
3x HT
166 divider
67 AGP
Stock Voltage
9x Cpu

These are well within the limits I just tested, but I could not boot. The bios screen kept looping.
 
I really could use some help right now. Could someone give me a detailed description of what to try.
 
This is really getting to me. I left the default performance mode, 11% overclock, aggresive timings on and it ran fine. Yet, when I touch any overclokcing settings myself, it won't boot. Maybe it is the bios. I did MSI live update through windows to 1.8. Any ideas? Help would really be appreciated. Can someone tell me exactly what to try? I might be overlooking something small.
 
I just tried 300x8 with a 133 divider and 1.45 volts. It said the system wasin safe mode though and to change my overclock settings.
 
I moved the memory from slots 1+2 to 3+4 with no luck. I really need some help here.

Seriously just read Eclipse's guide. Don't just assume your processor will do a 25% overclock. Set your ram divider to 100 and find out where stability max's out and go from there.

You may want to reflash your bios from dos, and make sure you load bios defaults, save, boot, then change the settings. Getting the Neo2's ram dividers were glitchy for me, but I reflashed and things seemed to work better.
 
I read his guide. My mobo hit 300, my cpu 2.4, my memory 220. I did MSI live update to 1.8 bios. Yet I can't do 245 with a 166 divider.
 
I need to try something though. I heard 1.41 was good. What do you think? There were also some cases of instablity when flashing through windows like I did with MSI live update.
 
I reflashed through dos with 1.8 and no luck. I think I found the problem though. :D It booted unstable at 245 with a 200 divider. However, it wouldn't boot at all with a 166 divider. I was reading on some forums that the 166 divider can have a glitch in it that tightens internal memory timings. They said you can download 1.95B beta modded beta bios or A64 tweaker. What is A64 tweaker; suggestions?
 
Ok this is VERY strange. I was told my Trfc should be in the 14 range but the dividers in some cases make it a lot lower. I booted with the 100 divider and found that at 8 and the tightest settings across the board. Looks like a found the culprit. :D :D Now they said to boot with 200 divider 200 bus and check A64 for the correct timings. Mine were 4.5-7-7-15 with a 22 trfc. I tried manually setting them to 2.5-3-3-10 with the same results. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!?! What settings should I have for my ram in A64 tweaker. I might try the other bios now. The zip has one file in it. How do I make a disk out of it.
 
The baseball bat is this close to coming out. I used the MSI winflash utility to load the 1.95b mod. It showed all of my settings like A64 tweaker, but the cpu multi was broke and my internet didn't work. I then flashed to the 1.41 mod. It said I was running 100 memory with unknown-7-7-15. It did the initial raid and ethernet stuff, but I can't boot or access the bios. And, the fan turns real low after about 15 seconds. I am typing this from my trusty Athlon 1700.
 
I reflashed with the 1.41 Bmod. Luckily it booted. My timings are still 4.5-7-7-15 regardless and I can't overclcok my components together using a 166 divider.
