A64's aren't, mobos are^^
oh yeea i meant A64 mobos :p well my question is are the brackets they come with supposed to be plastic or metaL?

It just depends on the manufacturer.

Also, some HSF come with backplates (metal).

If you think you should have gotten a metal backplate and didn't, check the mobo documentation, it will usually have a list somewhere of all included items. IF you are missing something, email the manufacturer and have them send you one.

depends who you buy from. I got metal from MSI and asus, if that helps ;)

well my mobo (epox 9nda3+) comes with the plastic backplate, which i believe has shorter screw holes than the metal ones, and i cant mount my heatsink cuz the screws are too short and i think they were meant for the metal backplates

that happend with my dfi sli-dr i just happend to have an extra metal plate laying around.but the plastic one i had was shorter too.

anyone kno?

metal backplates usually have something on them to insulate them from shorting out the mobo, the stickyness is what was probabally used to hold the insulation on, usually neoprene(sp?)
