I'm currently in the process of a computer build for a friend... He's stuck at, which processor to get?

Athlon 64 3000+ 754-pin (Newcastle core)

OR

Pentium 4 3.0 LGA775 (Prescott)


What do ya'll recommend? The proc will be mated with a 6600GT (AGP or PCI-e depending upon processor choice). Apparently, his measurement level, or rather, what performance plateau he wants to achieve is to BEAT a Pentium 4 3.0C with a 6800 non-Ultra "OC" (from BFG) in synthetic benchmarks. (hehe, dunno why...)
