Built a new HTPC with the following hardware:

MSI FM2-A75IA-E53
A6-5400K with stock heatsink
2x2gb G.Skill DDR3
Samsung 840 120g

Bios has been updated to latest. Brand new install of Windows 7 Pro x64 has been updated. Everytime I install catalyst drivers, after reboot, Windows blue screens. Tried latest 13.4, beta 13.5, 12.10. Same result. Chipset driver installs fine.

There's pretty bad video corruption in the MSI bios. And occasional video corruption in Windows.

By seeing video corruption in bios, I thought the problem would be the motherboard. I exchanged it and still get the same problem. Now I'm thinking the issue may be with the APU on the A6-5400K. I've never ran into a cpu problem before throughout all my builds, could this be the case? Any one else with ideas?

Going to try installing a spare video card, and see if that works. If so, I'm thinking it's the cpu.

What video card do you have? NVIDIA and AMD/ATI drivers don't play well together.

Was using the onboard APU. I've installed my spare 8400gs with none of the AMD video drivers installed.

Don't use the desktop GPU drivers, use this instead: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/embedded/Pages/embedded_windows_all.aspx

It contains all of the needed drivers for your chipset, USB 3.0 (if applicable), and of course CCC.
Tried this and still got BSOD after the reboot.

So I've installed my spare 8400gs and all the video corruption disappeared, including during post, in the bios, and within windows. Problem isolated to the APU on this A6-5400K? Again, I've never had a bad CPU before, how would I even invoke warranty on this. I purchased this from Newegg over 6 months ago but never installed it until now.

Have you tried updating the motherboard BIOS?
Yep, it's running the latest BIOS. I tried all the catalyst drivers also. Downloaded directly from AMD, downloaded from MSI's product site, and the one from a couple posts back. All with same results.

So I purchased a 2nd A6-5400K for testing before RMA-ing the first. Got the exact same results. Video corruption during bios bootup before installing any AMD drivers. After installing AMD drivers and rebooting, got the same bsod.

What's going on? Is this board just not compatible with this cpu? So I've replaced both the mobo and the cpu and got the exact same results. Both mobo's were running the latest bios.

Again, when I installed my 8400gs, no video corruption at all, during bios bootup and after installing the Nvidia drivers.

Nevermind, found the culprit. This set up needs ddr3-1600 ram. Popped a set in and was able to install catalyst drivers without bsod.
