There seems to be a flood of A1 units being assigned to everyone --> Windows & Linux
Yes, it does suck getting the lower PPD, but these need to be completed.
Since it is dropping everyone points per day, we are all in this together.

My best guess is Stanford has raised their priority to get them completed and done with.
No offical word yet from F@H admins but this makes sence.

Please do not delete the WUs in the hope of getting a different one.
It just makes it worse for everyone else.

Fold what you get --> Faster we complete them , the faster they go away forever.

Would be nice for them to temporarily bump up the base points for the A1 units, then people would be more receptive to getting them and not deleting the WU.

My ol' lappy just got one last night and its not too happy with it. If it stays up and doesn't crash it should finish before the preferred time. /crossed fingers

My Q6600 folding box seems to be consistently hitting the A3s. Can't say I'm unhappy, but I won't get upset if I get an A1 now and then :)

If you run a lot of GPUs with your SMP2 clients, the PPD is so drastically cut because of the new bonus system, that the occasional A1 WUs don't seem so bad anymore. I lose ~1000PPD on a typical client running A1 instead of A3 WUs, no biggie. I'm actually not bothered by the A1s in comparison with the new bonus system that is so vulnerable to client resource competition.

For the new Windows client, do the A1 WUs use only 4 threads, or can they use 8 now? If only 4, then that's pretty much quartering my ppd...

A1s will never use more than 4 threads from the looks of it, so better to just fold them and get them done.

I believe it's only four.
Correct.

Again folks, although we have a new client, nothing has changed with existing cores. Remember that cores are independent of the client. Nothing has changed with A1's or A2's. A3's are brand new.

The A3s are brand new but aren't they currently processing older projects under different designations, or am I understanding this incorrectly?

Old projects were ported to the new core to check and make sure that it's working properly. Once they determine that the results are consistent (hopefully), they'll start sending out new work.

Slightly misunderstood. Several of the A3 projects are based on older projects but they have been rewritten for the A3 core to either complete science that was not possible under the original core or for further analysis. Some of the A3 projects are brand new.

Ah, very interesting. Thanks for the clarification.

Update: Dr Kasson posted over at FF there is a shortage of A3, which is adding to this issue.

They are trying to get more A3 WU setup and them loaded to the servers.

Hopefully this issue will go away by Monday.

Guess that means A3 is a success if you had that many people switch that quick to deplete there supply.

1 yesterday, 1 today. Ack
Oh well....let em rip :D
(q9450 had an A1, then an A2, now another A1)

I feel your pain zero2dash, I normally do 30K PpD but yesterday I only did 17K points. Between A1's and some GPU WUs I am beta testing, my PpD tanked big time yesterday. Switching the i7 rig, as we speak, back to Linux so I can resume full-time -bigadv. :D

The Servers seems to giving A3 units back out.

If you are having trouble getting them, here are some steps to help.

  • Start your client with the -oneunit flag
  • Allow your current unit to complete
  • *Client will shut down upon completion
  • Go to your F@H directory
  • Delete you Work Folder, queue.dat,unitinfo.txt
  • Wait 10-30 min before re-starting you client
  • *Remove the -oneunit flag from the shortcut
  • Restart your F@H client

That *should* get you running A3 unit again.

Completed these steps on all my systems with no issues and back up and running SMP2.

I'm waiting for a good time to add the oneunit flag to my q9450 so I can ditch the VM and go back to the MPICH SMP client (now that SMP2 is out)...just have to find time to do it though.

I was wondering about the Windows clients. If we don't use MPI anymore, then why do we still have to run install.bat and why are there two versions still?

Because A1 still requires MPI. Once A1 is gone, MPI will be gone as well.
