The apple cinema is missing the inputs of the dell no? Truthfully I've never been a huge fan of apple, especially these days. Money over common sense IMO.
 
the new samsung 24? yeah very expensive .... if the Apple 23 carried the same price tag, i wouldnt give that Dell a cuss... that darn thing is an ugly SOB ....
 
People here really seem impressed with the silver case of the Apple, which I admit I have never seen. However, a black frame around a picture will give you better appearing contrast than silver any day. I wish my big Sony TV was not silver, but they started a silver revolution with that damn thing. Serious home theatre buffs know that you want a dark frame and a dark wall behind your TV too. My point is, I am glad the Dell has a black frame. I'm also very happy that the frame is thin too. The controls and logo are clean, so I am pleased with the appearance. The inputs are a big bonus, regardless if you are using them now or may in the future. Dell gives you a 3-year warranty (not sure of Apple's). The slight buzz of my Dell is probably the same as my old CRT, and less than my TV, copier/printer or computer. I have no dead pixels and no backlight. The Apple's have a pink tinge problem, and there's none of that on the Dell. I don't get a washed-out look with my settings.

I never saw either before I bought, but even at the same price I'd have ordered the Dell because of the good reviews (yes, I watched the Dell 2005 return-fest on this forum) and black bezel. The reason I never bought an LCD before was price (which the best-bang-for-the-buck $849 deal on the 24" relieved) plus the fear of dead pixels (which Dell's 21-day policy relieved).
 
In my personal opinion, for once, get the Dell. Now I'm not a Dell display !!!!!! (at all). In fact, the colors of that display are horrible for what I do, and the Apple Cinema Displays are perfect in color reproduction....except for the 23" one.

The 20" and 30" are perfectly ok, but the 23" model has been known to get a pinkish tint, or worse, just a pinkish BAR going down the display.

However, if the Apple 23" was as much as the Dell 24", I'd put my money on the Apple 20", then use the remaining money on ink for my photo printer.

It's quite possible that they did temperature calibration (which is what you would need for printing anyway). It should be easily changable.
 
whichever is cheaper, has a load of video inputs, and can go in portrait mode
 
The Dell 2005 and Apple 20" are the exact same panel... The 23" Apple is an IPS panel as well (hence the pink-tinge when viewing blacks on an angle) while the Dell 24" is a PVA (no violent blacks, just washes out a bit on an angle).

Personally, I would go (and did go) for a Dell. And while I had to return the 2005 a couple times, I'm very pleased with both the price and the product. The purple-angle thing doesn't bother me much because I'm not using it as a TV, almost always I'm in front of it.

The Apple also lacks 90% of the features of the Dell, so it's quite the easy choice. Not sure about Apple, but since Dell is a massive corporation, warranty is quite good, too.
Much more bang with your buck with Dell. And the monitor looks very nice, too ;)
 
I would still get the Dell. Because as I understand it, you cannot fine turn the Apple LCD without a Mac, as its done within the OS.
 
You can fine-tune it using your video drivers, but there isn't much available on the screen itself. The Dell is more feature-packed.
 
Didn't you read what I said? They both use the exact same panel. Apple lists the black-to-white response time (16ms) while Dell lists the gray-to-gray (12ms).

Picture quality should be incredibly similar due to the fact that they are the same screen.

hey i think i did read it clearly but i think he is asking about the 24inch dell LCD comparing to the apple 23inch LCD??
you were mentioning that the Apple uses an IPS panel and the Dell uses a PVA, and now you are saying that they use the exact same panel?? im lost...
 
Oh OK, I thought we were talking about the 20" models (Apple & Dell) which are the same panel. Sorry, my bad if that was the case.
 
Looks like K10 is not sure what he is interested in - 20" or 23" Apple. Is there a 24" ACD at all? ;)
