I just got this card and I'm seriously fucking impressed. Night and day difference from a X-fi Forte , I can't even begin to describe how clear and just straight forward clean everything sounds with my HD650's. I wouldn't however recommend this card to anyone with lower end head phones as the difference just won't be as pronounced without quality gear.

I leave my headphone settings standard , I find that keeps it all well balanced. For gaming however I use Dolby Headphone setting and the larger living space enabled , it gives a really convincing presentation of surround sound. However to anyone using this setting make sure to change the channels from 2 to 6 otherwise it will sound completely muddy and pointless ( I know thats a no brainer just saying however).
 
interesting, i couldn't stand crystalizer, to each his own i guess.

for gaming i set to 6 speaker dolby headphone (DH-2). i also use speaker shifter to bring the rears closer to avoid being stabbed in the back. :) gx turned on. svn turned on.
 
I just leave everything standard on mine. Dolby headphone gives slightly better positional sound, but it makes everything sound like you're in a sewer pipe, so I leave it off.

Listening to music and watching TV I leave everything off, for games where I want to feel the blasts and rumbles a bit more, I slightly boost the 30, 60 and 120Hz on the equalizer.
 
I'm a fan of no settings at all. A flat response plays the music the way it was recorded and intended to sound. If you have good headphones this will sound the best.
 
Everything standard on mine for music listening but for gaming i enable gaming setting for Dolby Headphone :)

haven't tried the titanium hd myself but some quick notes...

-HD has CMSS3D as opposed to Dolby Headphone
-HD has very nice components but the Essence STX has a slightly better DAC
-Xonar STX has more flexibility with headphone resistance with built in amplifier

for most gamers it comes down to CMSS3D vs Dolby Headphone

DH-1 and DH-3 sound ridiculous, i agree. DH-2 however i think is outstanding for gaming and movies. another thing i love about this card is customizing DH.
 
Sorry to bump this old thread.

Turn off everything and let only Hi-Fi preset on, Dolby Headphone settings are shit, compared to Hi-FI, stereo > all.

Sample Rate - 44.1khz

Audio Channels - 2

DSP mode - HF

And yea, DISABLE the onboard audio via BIOS.

This are my settings :)
