Just read the installation manuals for mobo, cpu, heatsink, etc. and you'll do fine. Be sure to also read about CMOS setups for your particular motherboard so you can properly set it up right away on first boot.
 
If you plan on overclocking your new Quad, install an aftermarket cooler from the start, so that you dont have to disassemble your rig later. Pretty much the Abit's are a cake to install and the bios easy to figure out.

Good advice there, get a 3rd party cooler from the off. The stock Intel heatsink / fan is a bitch to install too.

I have it! :) its abit too. I'm running the q6600 (b3)

Right now its OC at 3.33ghz

The processor is easy to install, you can even drop it accidentally on the ground and it will still get high 3dmark06 scores! (Don't do what I did :rolleyes:)

On my vista 64 bit and 8800 ultra I get around 13500 at 3dmark06 which is good for vista.

Im getting 13610 with my Quad at 3.4 and a 8800GTX, in Vista.

Remember if using an after market cooler, which i would recommend to place the thermal paste on correctly for a even spread. like so

If you use the stock HSF, make sure to make suer it's VERY tight on the CPU and board. We did one last night and it boot looped until we read to redo the HSF a lot harder.

This worked for us...

I would also suggest you try this first.

The scenario you describe SOMETIMES occurs on socket 775 processors that are not fully seated and locked.

If the heatsink is not contacting the processor heat spreader under pressure the machine will either fail to boot, or if it does boot will shut down after a few seconds.

If your processor is a boxed processor that came with the Intel cooler try this;

These instructions ONLY apply to INTEL coolers that were shipped with pre-applied Thermal Interface Material or Thermal Interface Compound.

Without removing the cooler take a flat blade screwdriver and turn the locking pins 90-degrees counterclockwise to the unlock position. With all the locking pins loose, without lifting up on the cooler assembly "gently" turn the cooler assembly left and right a couple of times (Just a couple of degrees each way). Turn the locking pin assemblies back clockwise as far as they will go, and re-align the locking pins with the holes in the motherboard. Push down HARD on 2 pins at a time diagonal from each other, until all 4 pins are fully down and locked. After all 4 pins are down and locked push down HARD on each pin individually.

After the processor cooler is fully down and locked, see if the machine will boot.

If I overclock to 3.4ghz I'm pretty sure I can get that same 3dmark score. I think we are pretty close in score. Did you OC your gtx prior the 3dmark06? If so what clock speeds did you use?

RTM,and take your time,get an anti static strap,set it up in a well lit area,and grab some refreshments,and make sure you have everything you need before you tear into the boxes,etc... :)

Also, pray to who/what ever you hold dear that nothing is broken.... oh, like a single spring clip on a Gigabyte DS3 that means the southbridge heatsink rubbed on the mobo and it's dead and you have to wait another week to build.

You know, pray :)
