Let's say you're in the market for a new TV; If you go the 1080p route, your Wii is screwed, but if you go the SDTV route, your PS3 is screwed?

Is there a happy medium?
How exactly is your Wii screwed?

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, lol. I don't know if I should get an xbox or the 360.

There is no way I am going to spend $500 + for a medium sized HDTV. Sure I could hook it up to my 21 inch monitor but I've got a killer 5.1 sound system and the whole thing wouldn't work out. My center channel is wider then my monitor and is just too huge.

Shouldn't a 1080p CRT HDTV be able to hit all of those resolutions?

Also, a non-CRT 480p display with a good scaler is supposed to be able to upscale to 720p with decent results. It is has something to do with 480p / 2 = 240 lines, and 240 lines x 3 = 720. It will still be a blurry 720p.

PS3 is supposed to fully support 720p.

The Wii is only screwed because it doesn't have more advanced graphics hardware. :)

The Wii supports 480P which is EDTV not SDTV. In any case a progressive image won't suffer that much from being upscaled, depending on the method used by the tv it may get sharpened or blurred a bit but rarely will it look bad.

As long as you get a display that has decent image quality to begin with and ideally a 720p or 1080p resolution both should look fine.

Scyles: There are no 1080P CRT HDTVs on the market, all the HDTV CRTs you'll find in stores right now are 1080i only.
