i plan on buying an HDTV very soon with a budget between $1500 - $1800, and i need some suggestions. let me first list my criteria and concerns:

3. lcd vs. plasma: my biggest concern is moving a plasma screen as i read that plasma screens can only be moved vertically. this might become problematic when i move, which i do often.

What do you mean by vertically? Aside from the obvious of vertically (meaning up and down).

Please elaborate.

As far as LCD vs. plasma, get the plasma. The black level on an LCD in your price range isn't going to be nearly as good as a plasma. My $.02

steve, i meant that plasma screens can only be moved when it's upright because the heavy glass surface might crack in the horizontal position...or so i read.

I have heard that in regard to CRT based HDTVs (as the guns can get all out of whack if you whirl it around) but never in regard to plasmas. I am sure if you are careful you you could move a plasma in other positions as well, just might not want to have it screen down. (then again, that would be unwieldy anyway, so why would you want to).

EDIT:

As to your other questions:

For movies, CRT based HDTVs (whether direct view or RP) are still hands down best for DVD. The just scale a whole lot better than any fixed pixel display, plasma would come next though.

LCDs overall are cheaper than plasmas, but have poorer viewing angles and black levels, but then again, you are going to be hard pressed to get a good plasma in your price range.
Then again, since you are looking for a rather small display, the differences might not be that noticeable between good models and entry level ones.
