The new version of VMware Player, 3.0.1, will not power up using 8 cpus- Just out of curiosity I disabled hyper-threading to see how/if it affects my frame times...Will post when I have results.

Yeah- I just downloaded it out of habit of updating crap I don't need to update ...I still have a version of 3.0 around here somewhere

you can still download 3.0 from the VMWare site, or at least a few days ago you could. on the download page, you just look down a little farther and it's there
