Hi, I have a 5.1 speaker set and was wondering if either of these were good deals:
Sony STR-DG600 7.1 - $100

Onkyo TX-SR602 7.1 - $75

My speakers are only 5.1 though. The specs are 15-100W @ 8 ohms for the satellites.
probably going to use for computer now, but if I were to use for TV/bluray, what features might I want (besides HDMI, I don't have a bluray player yet )? If my TV is only 27" 1080i, would I notice a huge difference w/o HDMI? TYIA

Which 5.1 have you got?
Generally less is more with speaker sound, IE the same money spent on quality fewer speakers give better sound reproduction.
The sound pressure at one watt is the important speaker specification, power handling is the ability to dissipate voice coil heat.
Base is related to speaker and cabinet size.
So the quality of the drivers and crossovers are a major cocern.
I would be inclined toward the Onkyo, you still need to read specific reviews if you can find them.
My elaborate stereo days are dated.

Well, since it appears you're looking at buying used and are at least a bit of risk taker, I'd look at refurbished Denon and Onkyo receivers direct from the manufacturer.

Their inventories vary as time goes by. Onkyo's current options are a bit pricier than the ones you're looking at currently, but Denon has a couple that are close...

onkyo TX-SR313 or HT-R391 ? sorry noob here , what's the difference?

power handling = (8ohms 20-20kHz 0.05%) /Ch, as an example ?
