A Thought...

I think a lot more people would fold if there was software out there to shutdown or pause folding when cpu temp hit a specific user set level.

Those of us that have been at this for years have learned to use a little bit better HSF then what is factory supplied. Not just for folding, it will make your computer last longer as well.

It’s not a big investment for the average machine.

Oh ya sure, I run stock heat sink, ya thats it.

Um we here at the [H] O/C to the max of whatever we buy. It doesn't account for changes in weather that cause more heat, causing unexpected crashes.

Well, somehow I mange to run 18 CPU's 24/7 all year round with no problems. Many here have more CPU's in their farms then I do and some even live in Arizona and other “hot spots” and get by as well.

If you need help with case cooling or are having problems we are here to help. There is as a rule a pretty simple answer to most folding problems. Honest. ;)

More like I need help with house cooling as I have no A/C. Lets just not go there. I'm just saying if there was software out there to do this, I think more people would fold.

You could change the default settings in –config. Drop the CPU usage until you hit a comfortable level. Also, do a search for a program called “rain”. That will help control your CPU and keep it cooler. Your production will drop a bit, but you will still be productive.

Let me know how you make out.

This is exactly what I do with a couple of laptops I have. I set the CPU % to a number that allows folding to run at a comfortable fan level.

BillR that's an excellent suggestion and I would like to point out to those that are gamers, you can also do this and the client will interfere a lot less, if at all if they set the CPU usage level down some. This is kind of in reference to something else I read here today from a gamer. ;)

wow, BillR responded politely and constructively, holy moose-crap!

Heh, I have my good days like everyone else ;)
