Hey guys, So I recently grabbed a gtx 680 4gb from the hotdeals forum (I love that place :D) and its been working great coming from cf 5870s.

I should mention im currently on windows 8. Anyway I went to install the beta drivers today and they give me the error saying "A system restart is required". So I restarted and no luck. I get the same error when trying to UN-install them.

I rebooted in safe mode and tried to get rid of them or install the beta drivers over the old ones. No dice. I tried driversweeper to clean out everything in regular and safemode, as administrator, everything I could think of.

Driversweeper eventually did remove the drivers and when I went to install new ones it was STILL giving me the system restart error... The only way I could get video drivers back on my machine was to go into device manager and tell windows to update my driver.

Anyone ever have this issue before? Im pretty much ready to reformat back to win7. Not just because of this but I also freeze unless I do that /bcdedit disabledynamic tick fix.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
 
What version of window 8 do you have, a full version, professional version or a beta version? make sure that your hardware are windows 8 compatible.
 
I have the win8 pro upgrade

system specs are:

EVGA x58 sli mobo
i7 920
12gb corsair dom
gtx680

Is it possible for motherboards to not be windows 8 compatible? I'm not running anything too ancient :(
 
What version are you using to install the GPU? v310.33 or v306.97? or try checking the Power control panel profile if its in High Performance switch it to Balanced, and by enabling the hidden "Processor performance core parking min cores" setting under "Processor power management". Under Windows 7 this value maybe was changed a while back and you don't remember, make sure that they are set at 100%
 
The first drivers I installed were 306, then later on when 310 became available I tried to install them and I started having the "A system restart is required" error.

edit: didnt see you were talking about processor settings* I'll check the settings when I get home.

The main issue im having now is that I cant install OR uninstall nvidia drivers at all.
 
I figured it out so I thought Id post my solution in case someone else had the same problem.

Last night I had pretty much given up and was about to reformat when I said screw it and opened up regedit and did a search for nvidia. I literally just sat there and hit f3 and deleted any registry key that looked like it had anything to do with the driver (there were a ton). After about 30minutes of deleting I restarted the pc and tried to install the driver again.

Success!

Not the safest solution but it worked for me :D
