My wife and I share a "computer room" (the study actually).

Whenever we are in their together we each put on headphones...her because she LOVES music and likes to sing along with it. Me because I LOVE playing games, and loudly, hehehehe.

Anyways I *am* using a pair of so-so cans...and I noticed just how much bass I lose when I put them on.

Does anyone run a subwoofer along with their cans? Or anyone know of some good cans (I am willing to spend a bit of dosh, but not over $150 if I can help it) that have great bass? This is for GAMING. While I do occassionaly listen to music, it is almost always streaming so the quality sucks anyways.

what kind of headphones do you have not? maybe upgrade to some better ones?
 
I use headphones for gaming too and I think it would be neat to be able to feel the subwoofer while still listening to phones. Headphones can't out and thump you in the chest or rumble your chair. If you are just looking for a rumbling effect, maybe try some bass shakers, partsexpress has them. If you want to feel the gun blasts go with a nice sealed sub but I don't think you spouse would enjoy hearing nothing but the low end of anything you are listening too, unless she has some very good sealed cans.

Sennheiser HD202 - $19.99 Amazon
Sennheiser HD212 - $30-60 Circuit City / Good Guys Etc.
Both are very similar sounding and pound at the bass (these felt like having mini-subs in headphones). Gave me a headache after 15 min. of CS. If you can find either at one of those stores, you can try them out and return to the store the next day for a full refund.

Moving up the ladder,
Sony MDR-V6 ($65 online) - lots of bass, good closed, monitoring phones - positioning will be good
AudioTechnica ATH-a500 ($115 shipped from Jpn, Audiocubes.com) - lots of bass, very good isolation, very good soundstage, great for movies and games

The Sennheisers will not be as good for positioning as the v6 and a500s.
 
I thought the DT770 was a very fatiguing headphone to listen to. It's true that they have bass while remaining controlled but I thought they needed a lot of EQ to stay listenable. I want to know about the sub as well. I've never been impressed by headphones compared to speakers, even compared dollar for dollar. Thing is I can't use my speakers all the time. I was looking at the Buttkicker and other low-noise LFE systems to recover some of the lost impact. Has anyone else tried these in higher-end rigs?
