A standalone mic?

Hey, not sure if this should be posted here, as it pertains to voice, although the audio quality is what i'm looking into. I have audiophonics headphones, and I need to contact people when I game (vent, TS, other voice stuff in game). The microphone i currently have is a radioshack mic that has a base so its stand alone, and required 2 AAA batteries (i know, olddddd). It worked well, although recently people can barely hear me in Teamspeak, and in ventrilo they can hear me fine but have a buzzing noise. With the mic being at 5-10 years old, i figure maybe I should get an upgrade. Does anyone use a standalone mic when gaming? don't really want to use a headset because i love these headphones! Any suggestions (links from newegg or another site? :p) would be great! thanks a ton!

Although its a far more expensive option, i wound up getting a webcam and using the mic built in to that for gaming with my headphones. Seems to work ok, im not sure how good the quality is though.

I was looking at the logitech mic:

should i go with that mic, the 3.5 mm connection, or should I go with the usb connection:

Will I notice a difference in quality? does the 3.5mm take batteries and the usb doesnt? I know the 2.5 mm i have right now uses 2 AAA's and if its the same besides that i might as well get the usb so dont have to worry about battery life.
any thoughts?

I've been using this for the last couple of weeks. Whats cool about it is you can clip it onto your existing headphones.

hmm that looks pretty good, i think that may be exactly what i need

edit: on second thought, not so sure about this after newegg reviews at least. doesn't have noise canceling, and i don't really want to annoy the crap out of people when I game.. :/
would you go with desktop if I'm worried about that? my desktop sounds like a leaf blower, and i have my roommates tv background noise all the time.

don't get the usb version if you have your own soundcard allready. With USB sound devices they act as their own "sound card" which can cause problems sometimes. Plus the only USB headset i bought had absolute crap sound quality.
Oh and that clipon mic? i bought one and thought it was junk. If you live near south jersey and i could actually find where i tossed it, you could have mine.
