a simple question about desktop

how do i get rid of the little boxes that surround the names of files and folders? like in this picture, see the dark boxes that enclose the names, i want to get rid of that. i just want the lettering by itself

Which version of windows do you run?

In windows 2000/XP, it's called a drop shadow.

Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced tab. Performance settings; check the box "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop".

Are icons "locked" in desktop? if so unlock them and it should be fixed
