i think we should make a section in the forum where people that are buliding new computers can go there and post their "will this work" "is this capable?" posts... :p

just my 5 cents

That would sure clean up general hardware quite a bit.

Aye. Could be useful. Maybe a subsection of General Hardware. Then again, what percentage of those posts do you think would really end up there instead of in GH?

SubSectttton would be best.

I just counted 5 newbuild help/upgrade threads on the 1st page.

I think NO!!!! fucking read reviews people. don't waste our time. I guess people are just too fucking scared to do anything without getting [H] approval. I never asked a single thing here or anywhere and my computer works fine. All I did was read reviews here and just look what otehrs have and MADE MY OWN DESCISON!!!!! just fucking read before you post people

sorry, but this has gone on long enough. If you don't make your own descisions, don't build a computer

i agree. people have to start learning to do their own homework. If you need furthur detail about something, ask. but dont just put a list of specs and expect everyone to critque.

The General Hardware forum was created for exactly that purpose and also a home for peripherals that do not have a dedicated forum of their own. GenHard is for diagnosing problems and asking about general build problems, so the short answer is it will stay like it is for the foreseeable future. :)

I really disagree with these comments. Just because YOU decided and built it fine doesnt mean that everyone else will follow in you're AMAZING glory. People want some extra reasurrance that it is all 'fine and dandy' before they go ahead and buy the stuff. I asked about my first ever build in another forum, now I have become more competent and dont need as much. I'd be very wary to just go out and risk all that money, as I think some others would be.

I absolutely agree with this idea! Subsection would be the best way to go!

Major has hit the nail on the head. There are good sub-forums for most common subjects, but G[H] has to be "general" by definition.

I hear what's being said about new folks in the forum, but I remind folks that ALL of us, at one time, didn't know a whole lot about hardware. I don't think it's constructive to call out what some folks think are "dumb" or "n0Ob" questions, let alone put them in their own forum, as frankly we all paddled that boat for a while. Sure, it's frustrating when someone asks a question that's answered in the first line of a Google search, but last time I checked, most times folks are "gently" (ok, sometimes not so gently....:D ) reminded of that fact and life goes on. My guess is they learn that the answer to their question can be had quicker with a little more effort on their part.

A build forum is an interesting idea, but what's more general than questions on a new build? Seems like the kind of thread that everyone can learn something from.

Personally, I want folks to always feel free to ask questions without being afraid of getting "lit up", as the long and short if it is that there are some very smart folks on these boards, and the quality of answers are by and large good ones. Time and time again I've seen folks reply with something like "....thanks! That fixed it..!!..." or "....finally the right answer...". It's Kyle's forum and I do what the boss says, but on a personal note, I WANT folks to ask Q's and eventually add to our knowledge base. That's what makes the board a good one, and always a good read. The first rule on the list more or less is "no flaming" and I believe that's one of the things that make the forums a good place for everyone, n0Ob or expert, to hang out and help each other out.

If you think you are "wasting your time" by helping out folks with questions, the simple answer is....don't reply.

That's my $00.02....B.B.S.

I agree to that. Ive built a few truckloads of computers in the past, of the Socket 7/PII era. But I bought a '77 Cadillac and thats what I spent my time on.

Now Im back and things have changed so fast I dont know where to start. Ive done my homework, and have a general idea of what to buy, and what not to buy. Ive figured out for myself from experiance and reveiws that AMDs are better for cheapo gaming pcs. I know what cpu takes what slot. I know what speed of ram goes with the cpu.

"I think NO!!!! fucking read reviews people. don't waste our time..."

I have not built a PC with remotely new parts for nearly six years now. If you were isolated from any computer related news for six years, tell me how arrogantly smart you really would be. If you feel I am wasting your time, dont bother looking in the future noob subforum.

I am in the process of building a new PC on newegg. I do not want to spend $800 on computer stuff, and find out its a hunk of crap, incompatible, or known to have problems.

It would be great to have a seperate place for "newbies" like myself to ask questions. and, they wouldnt be lost in the shuffle within five minutes if no one posted a reply.
