So i'm thinking i just have the worst timing in the world.... but at the time i purchased my Alienware laptop, it was the only manufacturer with a mobile graphics upgrade program.

Two months after I purchased my laptop, both ATI and NVIDIA announced their own seperate mobile graphics formats, aimed at standardizing the mobile graphics industry so you could upgrade more easily. Apparently that isnt quite working as planned and OEMs are still having to make modifications, but i guess that, along with intel pushing ahead PCI express by a year at the same time, has closed the door on getting any upgrades on this year old laptop.

Which brings me to my question - has anyone ever done an upgrade of their laptop graphics cards without using a manufacturer supplied module?
 
Thats a tough one, I have never done one, but I would assume that its still the same standard. That being AGP is AGP. So essentially I do not see how it would be any different, you would probablly get a better response to this question in the mobile computing forums.

If you can actually get your hands on one at a decent price is another story
