I know that almost every member out there has reviewed a rig a least once sometime in their life so another one won't hurt, I hope.

Case: Thermaltake VA3000 Dream Tower Black Tsunami VA3000BWA (I REALLY like style and I'm tired of using $15 cases). - $125
O.D.: NEC 8X Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive, Model ND-2510A (Best DL burner out there and very cheap to boot too) - $73
CPU: AMD Sempron 3100+ Processor Socket 754 Retail (I'll just oc it past the A64 3000+ because I'm on budget like everyone and 754 for the 3700+ when it becomes much cheaper) - $126
HD: Seagate 160GB Barracuda 7200.7 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model ST3160023AS
(I need space and quiet, very reliable drive with SATA, and at a resonable price) - $110
RAM: Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 (Difference between cas 2.5 and 2 isn't that great but price is). - $76
Mobo: MSI nForce3 250 K8N Neo Platinum (I'm tired of waiting for the DFI board to come out so I'm using the next best thing available) - $120
PSU: Ultra ULT31558 X-Connect 500W ATX Power Supply w/2 80mm Fans (Titanium Black) Retail (I've heard good things about this PSU and it has a very NICE cable management, plus it's shiny) - $100

Total: $730 (Budget is $800 but we always like to keep it down)

As you might have noticed, there was no video card because of two things:
1. I don't play THE latest games yet (I have to worry about getting into college first)
2. I don't have enough money

Whenever VD cards become cheaper, I shall buy the Nvidia 6600 GT and oc it but for now, my TNT2 Ultra should hold me out for MS Word and Solitaire. :D

why do you need that computer for those uses? why not just build a cheaper system, like a 2400+ 333 barton system. i built the following system for about $400 for my parents

retail 2400+ 333 barton
pc-chips mobo
512mb pc2700 crucial ddr
120gb wd se hard drive
FX-5200 video card
802.11b wifi netgear

My plan is to take it to take it to college and buy the 3700+ about a month before I leave so then I won't need a brand new machine.

IMO it would be much better to wait than to buy a sempron now and only end up with a Socket 754 board. It would be a lot more beneficial to wait and spend that money, plus the money for the 3700+ and buy a socket 939 mobo/proc instead.

Yeah, that was my original plan but I really need this rig and I'm tired of using a gulp, 266 Mhz K6-2 :( . Anyways, good advice.

I'd rather wait. It seems you'd be spending more money now then if you don't wait (since you're going to switch processors). Besides, either way you'd be looking at it, you'd be building a new rig.

Hey, I used a P1 133 when 1.5 Ghz machines were in full swing. Ran fine for word and solitaire.

And why exactly do you need this rig right now? The two uses you've listed don't exactly burn up cpu cycles, and I don't think high school work requires fast computers (maybe some typing with a text editor).

I do some mild CAD and photoshop in this thing and I have 200 mgbts left on a 20 gig hd. It literally take 1.5 minutes to load up word 2000, I'm really desperate. Believe me, if I could wait until 939s nd/or dual cores, I would.
