Far too often on places like the [H] forum I hear products like the 6800GT or Radeon 9800 Pro (stock heatsinks) being described as "quiet".

Unfortunately, "quiet" usually means "I can't hear it over my 3 case fans".

The problem is that some of us (like myself) are striving for a truly quiet PC. The 6800 and 9800 Pro are *very* noisy in the context of my case.

What I'd like to see on [H] is real testing of component noise. Build a system with a fanless PSU and a fanless watercooling system for the CPU (Zalman, anyone?). Boot off the network or off of a CF card. Run the hardware through it's paces. Do a real, objective noise measurement using calibrated equipment and provide us with the results, as well as an MP3 file of the noise.
 
I would like to see this also. I am an ambient noise freak, and I cant stand the sounds coming from some of todays popular cooling solutions (BFG anyone?)

The only problem is that sound levels are different from person to person, and noise level detecting machines are a bit expensive. :(
