hello, sorry if this question seems to be posted all the damn time. :(

so onto my question, i'm going to upgrade my memory (hopefully i can get it ordered tonight).

I'm probably going to be going with zipzoomfly.com because of the free 2nd day shipping they give, and the big factor, they seem to be a lot cheaper then newegg in the memory department. Tigerdirect has some good prices as well, and while I just had a decent experience w/ them, I'm going to stick with my "norm" for this one.

so the first I considered was this:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-17

This memory troubles me though, zzf states that it is tested to run at PC2700, and yet it's in the PC3200 section, and not only that, it has the same chips used on other corsair pc3200 bricks (specifically the one linked below). The only reason why i am considering this memory at the moment is that it seems to have good memory timings. 2-3-3.

The second brick I found is this:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80097-07
this one state's it's tested to run at PC3200, with timings of 3-3-3-8, which to my "newbish" knowledge in memory seems quite high. The mere fact that it actually runs at PC3200 comforts me. Also the price does appeal to me as well, it's 13 dollars cheaper then the first set. ($230)

That's all I have so far, what would you guys go with?

Also, if you know of any RAM that is comparable, or better, then my finds, in both price and most importantly specs, please tell me. I had budgeted about 240 for memory, but am somewhat willing to go higher. I'd really rather not however, especially if it's from a place i'll be paying shipping from.

oh, and i won't really be doing any overclocking with this memory. Just plug and go, that's all i wish to really do.

thanks for all the help!

edit: i just looked at corsair's site. the memory with the timing of 3-3-3-8 said it had timings of 2-3-2-8 and the other said 2-3-3-6

why no overclocking?

i have 4X 256 geil pc4000

nice:D

better then corsair... imo

If you're doing NO overclocking, then PC2100 or PC2700 should be more than adequate. Also, being that it is an Athlon XP, go for the lowest timings you can get. The chipsets love low latency even more than bandwidth (within reason). Lastly, if you're running an NF2 mobo, it probably won't even boot with a CAS 3.

'cuz it's just not my thing anymore :( plus this is a system i need to be perfectly stable, i'd rather not bring overclocking into the mix to cause another variable in the system, ya know?

i was thinking of geil. i just haven't heard very much about them yet.

i'm looking into PC3200 min. because i'm going to be upgrading my whole system soon. i'd rather not go slow on the RAM. if that makes sense.

I'd like to buy PC3500, but that's just out of my reach.

The motherboard i'll eventually be buying will probably be a DFI Lanparty 2 Nforce2 board or the Asus one. the model names have lost me at the moment though.

I will say that if you're going to get a DFI board, sell your sister into slavery and pimp out your mom and get some BH-5. Just don't get the OCZ-it's giving the DFI owners fits and we can't figure out why.
The Kingston HyperX (like mine), Mushkin Level 2 Black, Corsair LL's, and well, ANY BH-5, or even 6 runs great on this board.

alright, you guys, and the reviews on newegg, convinced me.

I'm going to go w/ the geil PC3500 memory. It's cheap to! 30 bucks less then the Corsair stuff. The only thing I'm worried about now is I'll be running this on a nForce1 board. Yes, the original. Think there will be any problems? Let's hope not, i don't want to sit and wait until i can afford a new motherboard.

thanks a lot for the help guys!
