Anyone know if the P5E will work with the new penryn without a bios update? I just got the mobo, and wanted to wait and pop in a Q8400. Or should I get a cheap conroe, update the bios then get a nice new Q9300 in a few months time?

Currently it (latest bios)supports the Q8400 and Q8500. No cpu listed higher than that that i can see on their support site. If it doesnt currently support the Q9300 I'm sure they will fix it in an update.

Thanks, but what I mean is, without the new bios should a E8400 work? I just bought the P5E-VM HDMI and some OCZ Ram, waiting on the Wolfdale to come out, so I won't have a chance to update the bios (I'm pretty sure it doesn't have the most current bios on it.

You should look to see which bios version you have just so you know where you are at with this situation. If I see any more info I'll post it for you.
