A question regarding a crossfire setup

Hey everyone

Longtime lurker, first time poster.
I’m planning on buying a computer with an AMD R9 390 card.
On my older computer I have an AMD R 270X on my old computer, I was thinking about using crossfire.

According to AMDs website
“The overall performance will be adjusted to match the memory speeds and engine clocks of the lower clocked card”

So the question is if it would pay off for me to use those two in a Crossfire setting or if the older card would totally ruin the overall performance.

Thanks in advance

390 and 270x are incompatible for Crossfiring, so you won't even get it working.

thanks, I must have misunderstood when I was trying to read through the compatibility charts at their website

I always keep a spare video card around for testing. That 270x would be perfect for that purpose. ;) Let us know how your new system performs when you've got it dialed in.

You can only CrossFire cards based off the same GPU core. For example, you could CrossFire the 270X with another 270X or a 270, a 285 can be CrossFired with a 380, and the 390 can be CrossFired with the 290, 290X, 390, and 390X

So no, a 270X and a 390 cannot be run together in CrossFire.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll let you know how the new system turns out.

My dog managed to ruin my old computer last february by spilling beer over it. So I've just been on my laptop since then.

Not so great performance with intensive strategy games :p
