A question about heatpipes

I am thinking of replacing my Thermaltech SLK-900U (its about a year and a half old) with a new heatsink that has heatpipe technology. I remember reading somewhere that the advantages of a heatpipe will be reduced if you use it at a non-flat angle. EG straght up and down.

Is this true or not? If you dont understand what I am saying I can clarify
:D

Well I have an SP-94 with heatpipes, and they say the optimal position is having it lie flat.

However, any ATX case has the mobo mounted vertically so you can't have the HSF flat. In this case, the best position would be to have the ENDS of the heatpipes pointing either towards the back or the front of the case.

Thx, now with that being covered, what is a good heatsink with Heatpipes to get?

Running an AMD Athlon 2500XP, atm i have it oc'd to 3200xp speeds, runs at about 50*C-55*C with my current SLK-900U, what kind of cooling would I expect if I got a new heatsink?
