hi,
I'm thinking of buying this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-047-CL&groupid=701&catid=11&subcat=
I want a sound card better than the one that comes with my striker, but this will eventually go into my up-coming mod which will be a 'futuristic' pc, so i want cool looking parts which is why i chose this.
Will it be better than what comes with my asus board?
am i going to get a big difference using an on-board card for the same price?
thanks

Bear in mind, this is not a sound card. It is strictly a Crystalizer box that adds this feature from the X-Fi series to whatever sound processing you currently have.

Artificial enhancers are no substitute for good media and good signals to begin with. I personally hate the sound of the "Crystalizer" You shouldn't need it and if you do you have issue in other areas.

Your buying this card becasue it looks futuristic?
you should concern yourself with the sound quality. If you like EAX gaming the sure get this card or wait for the Prelude. If your not a fan of EAX gaming there are alot better sounding card out there. You will notice a improvement in sound quality over onboard. Good luck on your hunt for a new sound card...

well ive read a lot about x-fi and it seems the difference is clear, so i ordered:
x-fi extreme gamer, for my pc, also supports my external decoder at last
x-fi x-mod, if the difference is that great, i want it for everything! :) let yu know how it goes.

i hope i do, and the x-fi lives up to the hype.
just for the record the xmod is for my up-coming lan box, where space will be short inside. and there's it's looks....
