"Meta builds its own AI accelerators, and at Hot Chips 2026 it presents the next two: the MTIA 300 for training and the MTIA 400 for generative AI and recommendation. Recommendation compute at Meta grows 3x a year, and GPUs sit idle waiting on memory for those workloads. I also show the first two MTIA generations on camera, and you see Meta's new MX8 format, with one shared exponent across a whole matrix."

saw title. figured you bought new gpu off facebook market place and got scammed.
Ian bought Meta MTIA 100 and 200 apparently off of eBay

(he said they fell off the back of a truck, so illegally obtained?)

Not sure if GPU (graphic processing unit) or the image of desktop GPU in the youtube thumbnail has much to do with those chips here, they have zero graphic pipeline, SM, output, etc...

They are from scratch AI work asic i feel like here, not in part GPU cores/SM used for super compute like a GB300.

The video even has presentation slide that compare GPUs versus those chips strategy, how it is different how they do compute and the advantage for meta of not using Gpus
