Alright so I took apart my case to see the exact brand of memory that I have in it. Well here is what it says...

DDR 512mb

pc3200U - 30440

All of the above information is on a sticker on the stick.

Now I'm planning on upgrading to a gig but want to upgrade with the same brand of 512. Thanks. Also any links to where I can purchase this exact ram would be awesome!
 
Looks like Samsung RAM maybe. Why dont you just download Motherboard Monitor 5 and find out?

Personally i'd take that out and swap it for 1GB of Mushkin PC3200 lvl 1 for $200 at newegg instead of paying for another 512MB stick of that.
 
Well I want to keep my costs down. So do you know exactly what kind of ram that is from what I have given you? Anyone?
 
Also how safe is it to use different brands of memory? I still dont know exactly what kind of memory this is but if I buy a gig somewhere else is it safe to mix? Can anyone reccommend me a gig that is under $200? I'm not planning on overclocking at all. Thanks

Yeah, mushkin is a great brand. But if you're not going to overclock, you might see if you can find a 1gb dual pack with a CAS latency of 2 (not sure if you can find that in your price range, I haven't looked in a while). Mushkin is known as great ram because of it's overclocking abilities. If you're not overclocking, then you might check out some other brands and see if you can get something with a 2 ms CAS latency.

Of course, that's just me being picky, but if you can find it, then why not? :p

Get this instead:

Its only $18 more. That surely wont break the bank. I got it for $203 tuesday :p.

CAS latency of course is not as important as tRCD latency. You want to be able to run at least 2-3-2-5 if you can in your setup.

I really am not familiar with ram terms at all. Could you put that in lamens terms for me. I really am not planning on overclocking like I said so would the RAM you reccommended be better since i'm not overclocking? What other brands would you reccommend me getting thanks.

Yeah, get that. Good ram, nice timings, it will do you well no matter if you are or aren't overclocking.

The Mushkin PC3200 lvl 1 would be the best option whether you are overclocking or not. Its what i just ordered and i plan to overclock my 3.0c to 3.6Ghz or higher. But i'll also run my processor at stock sometimes and it will perform fine then too because of its 2-3-2-5 timings. The Mushkin lvl 1 is cheap and great RAM. Mushkin is well known for having the best customer service out there and Mushkin memory will run at higher speeds error free then any other brand because of their extremely high quality of PCB's. How high a stick of memory will overclock doesn't mean a thing if it causes one single error. Brands like OCZ cause plenty of errors just running at their rated speeds alot of the time and yet people seem to not notice this because most RAM reviewers never stress test the memory.

Do you want dual channel? If so, then no, but if you don't want dual channel then go right ahead. But there's no sense in buying a dual pack if you don't want dual channel...
 
Alright I have another ?...The whole dual channel thing can somebody give me a good definition and how it works. Is this mushkin lvl1 ram I am getting now dual channel? So if I buy the mushkin lvl1 I can just take out the old ram plug in the new ram in the first 2 slots and in the 3rd could I still put that old ram or would that cause more harm then good? Memory just isn't my expertice.

Ok would I have to set up dual channel on the computer or what? Or if I just plug in the 2 new mushkins alone without the other 512 it will automatically do dual channel.
 
I would suggest you skip your current 512MB stick and just install the new RAM. I really doubt you need more then 1GB of RAM. More RAM wont give you more performance unless you need more RAM.

Dual Channel comes from having two controllers in the Northbridge instead of just one normally. When you enable dual channel both controllers are able to work togethor to double the bandwidth of the RAM. Its like having 4 lanes and only running 2 lanes normally and all of a sudden you open up two more for traffic to flow down.

Its not advisable to ever run different brands of RAM in a set confuguration because it can hurt performance or the sticks just wont run togethor. Your Infenion RAM probably wont run those 2-3-2-5 timings ither.

Alright so I'll screw my old infineon crap stick and get the mushkins. Now what do I need to do to install them in my Asus P4P800? Any ideas. Are there bios settings I need to change for adding dual channel or do i just throw those two stick in the first 2 slots?
 
I looked in the P4P800 user guide and found out that for dual channel I need to install it in Dimm_A1 and Dimm_B1 those are the blue mem slots on the motherboard and they are not right next to each other. There is a space in between them. So if anyone else could give me some advice that would be great. I'll be most likely ordering these today. What do you think this will do for my 3dMark scores? Also UT2K4 was loading up a little slow and shutting down a little slow. Do you think this RAM will help this problem out? You guys have been very helpful so far thanks!
 
All you do is populate dim slots A1 and B1 and your dual channel

PS: boot to cmos and go to the chipset section and disable spd and set to manual. Then set your memory timings manualy according to spec
