I'm very green with computers. my last two were built by ABS computers, I used them because they give plenty of options when it comes to picking the parts you want. I was watching tv the other night and came across this and thought it was a good deal.

This is my first post....I come to you all in hopes of learning a thing or two from the great mind that hang around here. I'm now running a P3 500/298/12gig win98 system. I'm soooo ready to upgrade, I'd like to burn dvd's, edit video, music, play with photo editting and internet use. Please adopt this lost poor soul and show him the way, I will forever be greateful for all the help and guidence. Thank you ahead of time :)
 
It would do everything you need it to. It is a very nice computer. I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy a Gateway, but in all honesty, it'll do just fine. If you have the cash, I say go for it. Be sure to shop around though. You might find about the same thing on Dell or something. The price on that seems a little high, but I haven't priced anything pre-built in a long time. I priced close to the same thing w/o monitor with name brand parts (Abit, Corsair, etc.) for around $800 or $900, so I guess cheaper parts, a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc., no labor, and a warrenty is worth $300 to $400.

It just depends on you. In summary: I would say that machine is not a rip off, but not the way I would go personally; I'm not "green" though.
 
Thank you so very much for taking the time to reply so quickly. Does Dell makes a better computer than Gateway? I'm a little worried that the integrated video won't perform well with vid editing. I will go up to 1500 trying to squeeze in a lcd monitor. Am I asking for too much? ;)

Dell usually offers integrated video with most computers too, and Real Video cards are upgrades. Correct me if I'm wrong, but video editting is more processor intensive than Video Card intensive, but I may be wrong.

My suggestion: Keep the CRT monitor that comes with it, and grab a 9800Pro or a nice video card, but thats just my $0.02
