Hi everyone,

Looking to spruce up my rig for some upcoming game releases (bf4), as well as replace a 5400 RPM notebook HDD.

Current:

i7 2700k @ stock (with stock HSF)
Asus Maximus Gene-Z
8GB ram
80 GB intel 320 SSD
140GB 5400rpm Drive
6950 2GB
TJ08-E Case
Seasonic X660 PSU

I game at 1920x1080, and would like to get High settings at a steady 60fps out of BF4.
I would also like a secondary drive, around 128GB, that can be used for steam games.

I am from Canada so I prefer Canadian sites to avoid an border issues.
My budget is ~ 400+tax

What are my best options for a GPU? is a 7950/GTX 760 worth 230+ upgrade from 6950? Can my PSU support a R9 280x?

What are my best options for a HDD? Secondary SSD? Budget HDD?

Should I invest in a HSF to OC?

Thanks for any input, I am very confused with all of the new GPU releases. (I do not bleed any specific brand)

The R9 280X is essentially a rebranded HD 7970. That or the GTX 770 would be a worthwhile improvement over your HD 6950.

That said, I can't give you an honest estimate of what BF4 needs until after the game arrives.

Give us the specs of the RAM.

What's the model number of the Intel SSD? How much space is used?

To replace the HDD, grab the cheaper of either the Western Digital Blue or the Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA 6Gb/s HDD. You shouldn't spend more than $75 for either drive.

By the way, where are you buying parts from?

Thanks for quick reply

RAM: Kingston DDR3 1333 CAS 9
SSD: Intel 320 80 GB SSDSA2CW080G3 - 13% Free

Parts from newegg.ca or ncix.ca

Here's what I recommend for right now:

$290 - Asus HD 7970 3GB
$68 - WD Blue 1TB HDD
$30 - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
=====
$388 - Subtotal (not including VAT, shipping, or rebates)

Every item is on sale and the sale prices all expire tomorrow, October 16. Guess what you need to do tonight....

The Hyper 212 EVO is for overclocking. It wouldn't hurt, and the case you have is pretty good.

As soon as you get the new hard drive, start moving ALL non-essential programs and files onto it. Your SSD should have only the OS and your key programs -- it shouldn't be more than 50% full for best performance.

(In the long run, however, it may be better for you to start saving for a 250GB or larger SSD.)

Ok, thanks a lot tiraids for all the help and being quick!

glad to have confirmation on GPU, so I can get some work done now.
