Right now my desktop has an HT Omega Striker sound card which is hooked up to M-Audio AV 40 speakers. I just got a pair of the Panasonic RP-HTF600-S headphones and when i plugged them into the AV40's they sounded OK.

When i plug them into my Onkyo receiver they sound 10x better... Are the AV40's not able to drive these? What do i need in my computer so the headphones sound the same?

I have seen sound cards with dedicated headphone amps, are they good? Maybe i need a DAC? Im not really familiar with this stuff and need some help. My final question, would it be simple to switch between headphones and speakers? I don't want to reach into the back of my computer to plug and unplug my headphones every time.
