Hi everyone at [H],

I finally put together my system. The whole build took around 4 hours. Everything went fairly smooth, but I do see some problems.

First off,

The TRUE 120 seems to be too loose on the CPU. Well you can twist it left and right. I´ve heard about others saying this too, so I went straight to the washer technique, But the problem persists. You can twist the TRUE. My Bios temps say the cpu is at around 32-40 at IDLE. Ambient temperatures are sorta high though. CoreTemp shows something differntly though, around 28-32 spread throughout the cores.

Second,

How can I adjust the Vcore on the Abit IP35-E below 1.325V. For some reason, that´s the lowest setting available. But when I go into CPU-Z, Vcore hovers at around 1,1 - 1,2 volts.

Third,

I bought 4gb of OCZ Titanium XTC 4GB OCZ2T800C44GK. It´s supposed to be able to run at 2.1V and 4-4-4-15. When I set it to those settings, the system will hang, without it being overclocked. Leaving it on auto works just fine, but CPU-Z detects the timings as 6-6-6-18. On a side note, I ran 50 passes of test #5 with memtest+ and I had no errors.

I have yet to run some stress tests to find out if the system is stable at stock speeds.

Any help on these issues is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Well your idle temps are not bad at all, some cpu coolers do twist back and forth , for example a few Zalman coolers do this but the connection is still superb. As said temperature wise I dont see anything wrong.

The ram is specified for 4-4-4-15 on their website?

Thanks for the response.

Yea the Ram is rated at 4-4-4-15. Not sure why it won´t even do 5-5-5-18 without hanging. Maybe im overlooking a setting.

Hey,

Bios was flashed to the latest version. 15. If I remember correctly, the problem was the same with Version 14 aswell, not sure though.

Could it be that in order to run at 4-4-4-15 I need to increase MCH a bit?

A big problem with RAM these days is that most of the higher specced RAM does not run at their supposed speeds.

I'm sure a good part of the problem is poor or no quality assurance, but sometimes bumping up the voltage a wee bit will allow it to run at the advertised speed. Since the voltage is already 2.1, I'm hesitant to recommend bumping it to 2.2

All respect is due to OCZ, but the days of 2.1V DDR2 are LONG past. Even the latest revision of Corsair's PC8500 uses 1.85v or 1.9v. 2.1v memory just runs too darned hot and while the nvidia chipsets don't seem to care one way or another, the Intel chipsets can be problematic with higher voltage RAM....or any RAM that isn't specifically listed on the compatibility charts :D

I think the best course of action is to RMA the RAM and pick up RAM that's listed on the compatibility charts.

I'm unfamiliar with that Abit P35 board though, so I'm trying to be vague in case I'm flat out wrong, but I hope that helps a bit - And show us some pics of your new rig! :)

I´m back! with more results.

I finally found a stable overclock:

3420 MHz

vCore - 1.465 in Bios (1.44 in CPUZ under load)
DDR2 - 456 MHz 1.8v
CPU VTT - 1.2375
ICH - 1.55
MCH - 1.29
GTLREF - 67%
FSB - 380
Multi - 9

Idle Temps - 32 34 30 31
Load Temps - 61 61 57 57

Prime Stable!

I did try to go for 3.6GHz before this but I believe heat was the factor that didn´t make it work. Temps reached 71 on 2 cores.

I will try to go up to 3.5GHz today and tweak some more.

As for the RAM, I ran it at 2.1v as stated by the manufacturer with no luck. Even tried 2.2v since they guarantee that 2.2v won´t void their warranty.

Seems that it runs fine at 6-5-5-15 at 400mhz at 1.8v, but that´s not what we want now is it :D

Anyway, judging from the temps, I would say it stays fairly cool, considering that my ambient temps are a bit high, so I don´t think I will modify the TRUE further.

All in all, I´m happy so far!

I will try to get some pics of the rig as soon as I get a Camera aswell as internet access. (have to respond to this in school :( )

After looking at this Review site:

http://www.cluboc.net/reviews/memory/ocz/pc2-6400_ti_cl3/page2.asp

I´m kinda confused at to why my modules won´t run at their advertised speeds or come even close to it.

The modules in the review are similar to mine. Anyone know what the problem could be?

As I mentioned earlier, Voltage can be up to 2.2v yet it refuses to take lower timings. I did notice that when I ran the modules in synchronous mode it would load up a differnt JEDEC profile then when I set it to asynchronous mode. Synchronous though is out of the question for now as I can not get the FSB to 400 as of now without further testing.

Since when have Intel chipsets not liked higher voltage(I assume you're refering to Micron based IC's) RAM?
