A borg of mine is having issues with games or so it seems from the end user's statement.

This user claims that the folding is affecting his WoW gameplay by stuttering or something like that I'll go on over to his room to determine what the affect seems to be exactly and also not only in WoW but it affected his other game play as well.

He told me he is disappointed because he wants to keep on folding but felt that he had to disable folding at the moment while we figure out the trouble.

2.13Ghz oc @ 3.41Ghz
4gb ram
Vista

SMP - yes to big wu - yes to services (tweaked got services to run)

Any thoughts as to what might be the problem?

What video card does he have? Maybe defrag also.

As far as borgs are concerned, I use the standard client alot. I know that it isn't cranking out points, but it is steady, and with dual core tech, very unobtrusive to the end user. Just a suggestion. Take it how you may.

He has Evga 8800 GTX and Diskeeper 10 or something like that... And I'll take it any way I may :) Thanks for the suggestions, but we're trying to figure out why would this SMP be causing problems and then if it's found to be the culprit, changes of client will be done.

Note: I was told he will be posting in here so lets give him a warm welcome and try to help and get this all behind us.

The user is me.

I can describe this issue a bit. First of all, when I was raiding in wow. It doesn't lag much until I face into massive lag from lot of spell going out at once (meaning lot of player casted any spell at the same times like aoe (area of effect), single target spell, and etc..). In another game, like CSS it lag when it come to lot of player in front of me and lot of nade blowing up in there. I believe when it come to heavy multitasking in game which probably causing me to lag while I am folding. I would like to know why folding is causing this problem. Again, the problem went away when I disabled folding. I was told that folding wasn't suppose to affect my gameplay. Why do this happen to me?

:(

However, i happened to order new cpu which is quad core. I hope it solve my lag issue while i am folding for jon855.

Note: I refer lag as in graphic lag. Also, my rig is right in my sig.

Any chance that while your ingame during these situations, you can get a recording of your CPU usage to show it pegging out? I don't know how well the SMP client is at letting go of cycles.

A year or so ago, when I was still gaming, I ran into these issues as well. It was enough for me to get rid of F@H on the gaming computer that I had at the time.

Best bet and this is what I do when I game. Stop the service, play your game, when you're done gaming, reboot and the service comes back upon reboot. Easiest way I've found. How many spare cycles are you going to have when your gaming anyway...

I have no problems playing any of my games while folding for Jon. Guess every computer has its own luck and weird problems.

I think this is a good idea. SMP is beta and hates to be shut down unless you do it just right and even then it still craps out a lot and restarts the unit. I wouldn't borg with SMP.

Also, you might want to assign it two Core #2 so it never interferes with WOW.

I would disable service and run F@H at startup and turn it off when you are playing.

That what I am doing right now. On September 6th which is tomorrow, I am gonna get to play with new Q6600 (Hopefully G0 stepping) on my rig. :D

More reasons Bluefish44 got to watch out... We're fishing hard for him :)

I simply turn off the SMP folding when I play certain games. Control-C and it is gone. Easy to start up. I made a batch file called "start.bat."

Some games do not play nicely with SMP.

I lose work units this way. I never shut down SMP without copying the folder to my desktop first while it's still running. The decision to dump a unit seems arbitrary to say the least.
