A friend of mine is upgrading the following four components and has set a limit of 320 bucks:

video card
motherboard
memory (512 is PLENTY!)
processor (he's an Intel boy)

Primary uses: gaming, surfing, mp3'ing

Any suggestions?

I have the following that I came up with for that budget:

512MB Geil Ultra Ram (2X256) - (45.00)

Gigabyte 848P mobo (65.00) - I'm not sure on this one. I've liked the intel865 series chipset and up (875; 915) for intel builds as I've installed several of them but price is a factor

Intel Pentium 4 2.4 Prescott (130.00)

Sapphire Radeon 9600 128MB (70.00)

Total: 310.00

How do those look and what recommendations would you make?

Thanks -

I wouldnt suggest that videocard its nice but depending on the gaming it lacks alot id look at a geforce ti 4200 or one in the Ti series

Yea, the little extra cash will really be worth it for better components. Such as 9700 or 9800 at least.

Hey, that vid card isn't THAT bad.....I just got my Sapphire Radeon 7000 (PCI) from newegg today........

(for wife's machine, as it had only 1 output (DVI), and we want to use it as a semi-htpc)
