A 1GB 9600gt?

well I didn't know that XFX had them but they are not new. Unless your doing high resolution SLI with AA your not going to see any real benefit from the extra memory. ( and no one has tested this, not that I have seen) but it may well be used latter on, as the card get more memory programmers are going to make use of it.

Well..if 8800 GT didn't have enough juice to take benefit from 1024MB vram.. then 9600 GT doesn't have

no really, sounds like a waste of money.

1gb of ram is not needed for todays games, if you were running a 2560x1600 then it would be a good idea to get that card. even then its still to slow to utilize it swiftly.

So, where's the 8800Ultra with 1536 MB of RAM? A card like that might actually be able to make use of it all with its wider memory bus.

Going to back that up?

I doubt that the 8800 Ultra in all its greatness could even begin to run games with those kinds of textures. Even if it could (Tri-SLI), no game in current existence has enough textures to even fill 1GB of memory, let alone 1536MB. The most texture rich game out is Crysis, and that is not even worth the money spent on the game itself, so I doubt it would be worth it to buy 3 8800 Ultras (or high-end 9 series cards) just to play Cysis at full settings. I'm not saying people don't do it, but the game is lacking big-time. There are better FPS games that require less hardware and give a user more bang for their buck.

Are you going to backup what you've said?

...oh, and before you say "That 8600GT of yours can't handle modern games that use 512MB, so why did you buy it?", I do video editing with this thing. After Effects CS3 utilizes the GPU and a video cards VRAM. The more the better. It is the one use I could see for getting an 8500GT w/ 1GB of memory.

512mb is beginning to be a limit on games but only the higher end resolutions . Most games or systems this will not be a problem. But I am wondering how long this will be true for. All the same there are only a couple of applications that I use that would make use of the memory. For a few bucks more I would get the 1GB. if its something stupid like the 3870 cards no way in hell. if all you do is game I would not bother.
