Such a fail.

You could get 2 480s and part of a Liquid Cooling setup for that, or 2 480s, 2 Spitfire coolers, and 2 VRAM coolers for the spitfires and some beer.

And the extra memory doesn't do ANYTHING AT ALL without Eyefinity.

I know somebody will buy this, and there's nothing I can do about it.

Yep... that guy is either crazy, or just has lots of money to burn, and doesn't care what he burns it on.
 
This would be probably be a killer eyefinity card especially when overclocked. Really put that vram to work. Though the price is still ludicrous.

Horribly overpriced, is this the first time such an ATI card costs so expensive, even though its not an official card from ATI themselves?
 
when i saw this in his comment "ASUS P5Q-PRO, E8400 @ 4.2GHz".. seriously your going to use a 1300 dollar gfx card on an e8400 @ 4.2ghz that will bottleneck the living shit out of that card?

still a nice looking card and should be an eyefinity beast..
 
I'm just curious if the PCI-e 2.1 is going to bottle neck the card when pushing 5760x1200 rez once you have a game that maxes the vram. Any reviews showing the difference between this and dual 5870 2gb's yet?
 
This is full of lulz. The review and the card.

$900, a two hundred dollar premium, would have even been appropriate for this card. $1,000 would have been the limit for reasonable on this 4GB card. But $1,230? You'd have to be as nutty as that reviewer to buy this card.

I'd love to see a review between watercooled SLI GTX 480's and this card... even with both systems driving three monitors at 1920x1200. A review of performance on one monitor wouldn't be close to fair on this 5970.

And the guy is using an Antec 300 apparently. I don't think this thing can even fit in an Antec 300.
 
My worry is that the guy is using a dual-core CPU....a Core i5 750/Phenom II 965 should be the BARE minimum for that card.

You're worried a person with $1250 to spend on a GPU might bottleneck it with an i5? :confused:

Outside of the complete idiot that left a review with a Core 2 Duo processor, I can't imagine someone with this budget buying anything but the best CPU, the 980EX.

yeah it will fit in an antec 300.. you just have leave 2 hdd slots open for the end of the card to sit inside the hard drive cage.. actually does a pretty good job cooling since theres a fan sitting right there funneling the air toward the fan's on the card..

The i7-930 doesn't bottlneck the 5970, the 980X is a waste.

?

A 955 and a 5970 is perfectly fine.

CPUs only bottleneck at low res, without aa, and nobody buys these cards to play at 12x10 with no aa.
 
Point is... if you're blowing $1200 on a graphics card, you should also be blowing $1000 on the CPU =D

Highly unlikely, nearly to the point of being impossible I'd say. You'd reach the processing limit of the video card well before you saturate a 16x PCIe 2.1 slot with todays cards.

That's like saying if i'm spending 2k$ on a computer, and I spend 1k$ on Graphics, I should spend 1k$ on a Gold Plated case.

Your example is flawed. It's not even close to the same thing. The case has no bearing on the performance of the CPU or GPU. The CPU on the other had as a direct and significant effect on the performance of the GPU, not to mention the entire system as a whole. I wouldn't want my $1200 GPU to perform like a $400 GPU becuase I chose to pair it with a $150 CPU. Now if you spend more on the CPU, your GPU will perform like it should. However, a case made of pure gold with platinum accents and diamond rivets won't do jack for performance.

Make sense?

Kinda, except I'd bet $500 that you wouldn't see any diff between an overclocked i7-930 and a 980X in almost any game..
