This may be a dumb question but I was looking at a 9u wall mountable rack cabinet and I was wondering if they can hold servers? I have a switch, shelf for the modem and pfsense box and I found a mini itx 1u case to put my Ubuntu server in that'll fit in the cabinet I'm looking at. Since I haven't seen anything showing a server in one, just wondering if it's possible.

9u wallmount cabinet for servers

I asked the seller about it and they said it wouldn't work. Did some searching around and everything showed just switches or patch panel or shelves with modems on them. No actual servers.The case is 10" deep and that's leave six inches for cable behind it.

Weight might be an issue, also cable management, like how do you access the back.
1U Supermicro short length servers could work though, they're about the size of a switch.
If you do it just make sure the top screws are very well in. They will be the most important. I would use lag bolts right into the studs with nice big washers.

the case I'm thinking about is this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811128079&ignorebbr=1 ) which is 9" deep and the cabinet is 16: from front to back and all sides have removable panels. weight isn't really an issue since this will be on the floor in a closet(or in the attic).

Lag bolts with large washers is how we mount pretty much all our wall mount racks. Never had an issue and we've had some pretty heavy weight in them. We've used quite a few of the Tripp Lite racks.
