98SE with external HD, possible?

Got a 200 GB internal HD and an enclosure. Got XP PRO SP2 in internal SATA HD with USB 2.0. I plan to partition the drive into: 20 for 98SE, 20 for Linux, and the rest for backup. Is it possible to boot windows 98SE from the external drive (same for Linux)?

That would (again) be No on the windows...

IF you still don't believe me here is a developer page from Microsoft on thier INTENTIONS to make this happen...they are trying to get the right people together to make it work. It is a call-to-action. It cannot be done at this point in time. Here is a snippet that might be of interest

"This paper focuses solely on booting from hard disk drives and CD-ROM drives for recovery and deployment purposes. Windows as it exists today is currently not optimized to run as an installed operating system from USB attached mass-storage or CD."

As far as Linux goes, I spoke to my friend and he says that you need to recompile the kernel with USB support built-in. Which may or may not be needed with some of the newer distributions. You could try Fedora Core 3.
